Probate Code section 53 directs that a holographic will be “entirely written, dated and signed by the hand of the testator.” In thYOU WILL UPSET THE ORDER, MY SONe 19th century this requirement was recast by the courts to mandate that the instrument be entirely written, entirely dated and entirely signed by the testators.

The “entirely signed” requirement has never posed a serious problem.
