Aleph, Mem, Tav. Emet. While animated, the golem possesses no spiritual qualities, because, quite simply, it does not have a human soul. It has been given the ruah, the “breath of bones”, or “animal soul”, the basic life force in all living things, but possesses nothing higher. It is typically not given a name. It is not considered a human being, nor does anyone in written accounts particularly concerned with its well-being or express any sadness at its deactivation. This isn’t cruelty so much as emotional indifference. The golem is simply an animated thing, like a robot, with no real life or desires of its own.
Sometimes, deeply held beliefs must be hidden or compromised in order to preserve a stable, congruent mind in the face of seemingly contradictory beliefs, or a hostile environment. The blows of cognitive dissonance are harsh and unsettling – the mind does the best it can to mitigate this, as it should. But in order to realize your full potential, you have to do your part, as well.
Remember – ‘unethical’, ‘hypocritical’, ‘depraved’ – these are only words. Oppressive, limiting words. Don’t abide by the rules or definitions of others, don’t fall into the trap of ‘conscience’. Let reality, and those who would physically oppose you, be your only boundary. Dive headlong into the insanity. Forget what you thought you knew – it will liberate you. Place your faith in what you choose, what you can draw strength from, and ignore the inconsistencies. It isn’t willful ignorance – it’s self-empowered freedom.
