The 19th was an uneven day in Granger. A good number of negroes were in town and celebrated in more or less orderly manner until the curtain of darkness closed over the town. Then the too frequent indulgence of “red eye” got into the blood of at least one big buck and Marshal Benson “loaned” him the forty-five just above the left ear. This brought him to taw for a time, but when an effort was made to take him to jail, he took to his heels and only by the persuasive power of leaden missels whistling about his ears and eminating from Marshal Benson’s gun was he brought to his senses.

Later on in the night it is stated that a Mexican took a few fancy shots at another “celebrator” of the kinky head variety, but of course he couldn’t shoot straight and there was no funeral.
